Get Sketchy #71 and Pink Cat Studio

Today I bring you this weeks Get Sketchy sketch.  It's another fab sketch that is great for any level card maker.  This week we are sponsored by Pink Cat Studio.  We got to play with some of the fabulous digital images and let me tell you these are way CUTE... I just love them all.  I have to say this is my first time using a digi image on a card but I did my thing and I just love the way it turned out..   If your new to digi images for card making like myself all the images print in black and white so you color it anyway you like or even print it on pattern paper etc.  Just like stamping but without the stamp.  Another great thing about Pink Cat Studio is not only do they do Digi images but they also make stamps that you can purchase so if your a stamper and love your rubber then your gonna love Pink Cat Studio.

When I create cards I usually sketch a draft out before creating so I have some kind of idea what I want to create.  Not always do they end up looking like the sketch after it's been flipped, twisted etc. I am by no means an expert at creating sketches but thought I would share anyway. lol  So with that said I thought it would be fun to post a sketch a week for 2011.  If you feel like playing along I would love to see what you do so leave a comment with a link back to your creation.  Who knows if a lot of people start playing a long I just may give out a prize once a month...

Get Sketchy #70

Today I bring you this weeks Get Sketchy sketch.  I had fun with this sketch and using up some scraps that I have had in my scrap bin.  I don't keep a lot of scraps as I tend not to use them like I should so one of the things I am doing this year is to create cards with all my left overs from creating layouts or projects. It has always been my best intention to do this but as life always seems to get in the way things often get put on the back burner and before you know it you have a box filled with scraps.  Well NO more... lol  I have been cleaning and organizing my scrap room and vow to only keep scraps for no longer then a month.  At the beginning of the next month I will empty that drawer and bring it to my LSS to see if any of the ladies there want it and if not then it goes in the trash...  Ok so enough chit chat..

Clear Scraps Sneak Peek Blog Hop...

I am so excited about all the great new products that Clear Scraps is coming out with this CHA and I hope as you hop along you will get as excited as I am about this release and the amazing new CAST Acrylic products.  The Cast Acrylic is a harder non flexible acrylic that when your creating with it you must treat it like it's a piece of glass so no punching holes, embossing, sewing etc.  It is NOT replacing the flexible acrylic that we all have come to love.  It's just another Acrylic option that Clear Scraps has to offer.

Get Sketchy #69

Our Holidays were ok this year, but doing it all by myself was hard but I had a fun time with it and was grateful that hubby was able to watch the kids open up gifts via skype...  Skype has been a part of our every day lives and I am so thankful for it.  Without it I would not be able to see my hubby and he wouldn't be able to see the kids and I.  It's made this deployment a bit easier.

Today I bring you this weeks Get Sketchy sketch.  This sketch is awesome.. I love it because it's great for any level card maker and the possibilities are endless..   I took out some of my favorite pattern paper by Fancy Pants.  I just love all the little hearts.  I also grabbed some labels I found in the wedding section at Michaels a whole box of them for $0.97 great deal and some odds and ends that were on my desk.

• I embossed both pieces with my embossing folders
• I then removed the clear coating
• I used StazOn (it's my go to ink and trusted in for Acrylic) Black and Metallic gold and inked the back of my pieces
• On the Black frame I also used Viva Pearl White to embellish my embossed dots
• On the Ornament I inked the embossed image with StazOn Metallic Copper then embellished it  with Glitter
• Cardstock is Core'dinations
• Ribbon is May Arts

Christmas Paper and a Cricut... Plus a Giveaway

I love saving my holiday papers that I don't use from the years before and I am also one to shop for Christmas paper after the holiday.  I even buy Christmas paper in Feb. when stores clearance it out.. You are probably wondering why....  Well every year I make these fab little boxes for my kids to take to school to pass out to friends, teachers ect.

So you are probably wondering how I made these... Well today is your lucky day because with it being the sharing and giving time of the year.  I figured I would share how these little goody boxes are made..

things you will need...
Cricut
Wild Card Cartridge
Pattern paper
Hambly transparencies
ribbon
embellishments
good sticky tape

Cutting your box on the Cricut is so easy...  Load up your pattern paper and select 5 1/2 for your size make sure you have real dial size on and also turn on the fill page.  You will only get 2 boxes per 12x12 pattern paper.  I also like to use the heavier cardstock pattern paper.  

Once your done cutting out all your boxes with your cricut punch some fun shapes from the scraps left over or what ever scraps you have.  I also take some other papers and cut out trees, snow flakes etc.  Embellish your embellishments with glitter if you like. 

Now it's time to assemble your boxes.  I like to use a good sticky tape like Scor Tape (by Scor-pal) google it and you will be amazed.  I use this to assemble my boxes.  It goes quicker if you fold all your parts on the boxes first and then I apply tape to all of them and then assemble them.

I cut my Hambly transparencies bigger then the window and apply with Scor tape also (you can also do this step before assembling your boxes which ever way works best for you.)

Once done with all of them I fill my boxes with candies.  I like to get the flatter pieces of candy like the Hershey's bit size candy bars.  I also find some small little chocolate balls and Santa and snowman football shaped candies at Walgreens by Palmer in 2oz bags (it's the only store I have been able to find them at and they are usually 2 for a $1)  I put 2 of each of these in the boxes and Palmer makes some other "flat" chocolate candies as well that I love to use like mini crisp kringles, cookies in cream, Andes Candies (original ones or the others are to big) small candy canes etc.

 When you are done filling the boxes use a ribbon to wrap around and tie in a bow (this helps keep your box from opening and spilling out your candy)  Now embellish if you like.

I also make these for the kids to pass out on Valentines day.

This week at Get Sketchy we are using sketch #68 as our inspiration.  I love this sketch for a few different reasons.  1. It's a great sketch for flipping and turning etc. 2. It's a great sketch for anyone just starting out using sketches.    This week I made 2 different cards using this sketch.

On my second one I turned it into a gift card holder to hang on my Christmas Tree.  I just love the home made feel of these and they look great hanging from the tree.   Keep on reading for step by step instructions on how to make these.  These are so easy to make that you will find yourself making several...  

Products used:

Pattern paper is from JoAnns

Bazzill Cardstock 

Kraft Cardstock

Inkadinkado stamp

VersaMagic ink in Hint of pesto

clear embossing powder

Stickles in Christmas Red

Distress inks in Fired brick and Old paper

Making Memories loopy ribbon

Hemp cord from JoAnns

Eyelets 

Instructions 

1. trim cardstock to 4 1/4 x 7 and fold in half with the folded side at the bottom and glue on both sides leaving the top open
2. trim pattern paper to 4 1/4 x 3 1/2
3. stamp image on left corner
4. emboss
5. Ink edges of pattern paper and adhere to the front of your gift card holder
6. Adhere ribbon to the bottom of your card
7. Cut out Christmas tree (I used my Christmas Cheer Cricut cartridge)
8. ink edges of tree and place on your card ( I used foam tape to pop my tree up a bit)
9. Punch your holes on top and add eyelets to them
10. run your cord,ribbon etc through them and tie a bow
11. Hang them in your tree, with a stocking etc.

This will make a great teacher gift with a Starbucks etc card inside.

It snowed..

Yesterday we had our first snow fall of the season.  Today we are having our first snow day of the season.

When the kids got home yesterday they wanted to play in all the fluffy snow so Miranda grabbed the camera and snapped a few photos.  Which was perfect as I was creating with the We R Memory Keepers Merry January collection for Lila's Scrapbooking and snow photos is what I needed.

Here is my layout and a couple cards.

 

I added some October afternoon mini alphas as they were the perfect color and a black #1 thicker from American Crafts.  Everything else is We R Memory Keepers Merry January.

 

I added a flower soft topper and flower soft to the card on the right.  I am just loving flower soft.

Get Sketchy #65

This week at Get Sketchy we were to find something in our home that inspires us and design a card based on that.  Since the holidays are approaching we have been slowly getting our Christmas Decorations up.  This sits on my mantle.  (The tree was published in Simply Handmade Dec/Jan 2009 issue)

I choose to take Gold as my focal color as well as use something that is flowing etc.  So this is the card I came up with.

I have been keeping a wee secret....hehe

Yes I have.  I found out a couple weeks ago that I was selected as a New Designer for Get Sketchy Card Challenges.  I am beyond thrilled about this new adventure.  If you know me you know I haven't considered myself a card maker until very recently.  I always loved to make cards but was never really happy with them till I started looking at cards as small little canvases and then something clicked inside my head and I started creating cards with that in mind and Now not only do I enjoy making cards but I actually like the cards I'm creating. LOL

A couple new cards...

I recently got a huge box in the mail from Two Peas and couldn't help but dive right in and get creative.  I will be the first to say that I don't order from them a lot but when I do it's because they have something that I'm looking for that I can't find locally or they have an amazing sale that I just can't pass up.  Can you say Prima at 30-50% off.  Plus free shipping on orders over $50 yeah that's not hard to do with a box filled with Prima flowers, bling, pearls and paper.  I created a layout and 2 cards.  I can't show you the layout just yet as It's something I made for a certain company mixing it with some of their Mixed Media products but as soon as I can I will post away.

Thankful for My Family

When I seen the new Teresa Collins Giving Thanks collection I knew I wanted it to be our November Family Mini.  I don't normally do monthly mini albums but when hubby is deployed that is something that I do.  When it's filled in with photos etc then I ship it to him so he can see what we have been up to what the kids are doing and how things are at home.  It's his little piece of home that comes to him.. Each page is also a pocket that will have letters placed inside them to him from the kids as well as more photos etc.

Vintage Santa Images

I am totally loving all the Vintage Santa images that  you see in pattern papers this year.  Pink Paislee has totally out did themselves and I am in love with the Father Christmas line.  I paired the Father Christmas line with a clear acrylic star from Clear Scraps.

I love using all the different clear shapes that Clear Scraps makes.  I enjoying using them on my layouts and altered projects but most of all I love using them as the focal point of my cards.  Today I am showcasing Clear Scraps "Small Stars" which are great for any project no matter what theme or event your working on.   I love to ink them up and emboss them to make them stand out more on projects.

Zig Silver paint pen

Staz-on Teal Ink

Tim Holtz Sizzix embossing folder

Ribbon

Instructions:

Cut cardstock to 10.5 x 5.25 and fold in half

Cut pattern paper to 5x5 and ink edges in Creamy Brown and adhere to front of card

Peel off protective coating from star and ink with Staz-on Teal ink

When dry emboss star

Paint the embossed image with the silver Zig Paint Pen
Trim out Santa from pattern paper and apply Vintage Glitter Glass with favorite adhesive and then pop dot to center of star.

Adhere Star to center of the card

Add ribbon and tie in bow.
