Aluminum Foil and Alcohol inks

Last week I showed you this card using aluminum foil.

I promised I would show you what I did to my  leaf.  So today is the day.

Supplies needed:
Scrap paper
Glue Stick
Alcohol inks (I used Terra Cotta Black and Metallic gold)
Aluminum foil
Inking tool
Leaf dye and embossing folder

Instructions:
1. Tear off some aluminum foil and crush it up a bit
2. Apply glue to scrap paper
3. Place aluminum foil on top of scrap piece of paper and smooth it out

4. Trim off extra aluminum foil and die cut your leaf from your paper and then emboss it

5. Shake Metallic Gold alcohol ink and apply a few drops directly to your leaf

6. Apply Terra Cotta alcohol ink to your Inking tool and start dabbing your leaf till it's covered with ink.

7. Apply a small dot of black alcohol ink to a new felt strip on your inking tool and dab in a couple spots and then switch back to felt strip with Terra Cotta alcohol ink and dab over black ink.

8. Continue dabbing your leaf letting the ink dry some and then dabbing it again.  Once you get the look that your looking for set it aside and let it dry.

9. Use your leaf as an embellishment on a card.

I also did the same technique on a pumpkin.

Technique Tuesday April 14th...

Today is Tuesday and that means time for another fun technique... This is one of my favorite techniques. I have used it a few times on layouts etc.

We are going to make our own background paper, but you can do all kinds of things with this technique...

Items needed:
Chipboard pieces, die cut pieces or lace cardstock
White core cardstock such as DCWV, Core'dinations etc
sander

First you are going to want to place your chipboard pieces into a pattern or however you like.

Take your piece of cardstock and place it over your chipboard pieces.

Holding down firmly on your cardstock start to sand on top of your cardstock

You will start to see your pattern showing up on your cardstock. The more you sand the more the white core will start to show your chipboard pieces that are placed under it.

When done brush off all the sanded cardstock and your cardstock will look very similar to the pattern you made with your chipboard pieces.

You can also do this with die cuts and even that awesome lace cardstock that cost $2 a sheet. This is a great way to get more out of that lace cardstock. It will NOT damage your lace cardstock, die cuts or chipboard.


I cut down my green piece of cardstock and used it as my "pattern paper" on my card.

Technique Tuesday -- April 7th

I bet ya thought I forgot about my technique for today... I have been busy this morning and this is the first chance I got to post. I have also added a "followers" box to my sidebar. If you add yourself to the list it will let you know when I have updated my blog and it's easy for others to visit your blog...

So for my technique today I call it embossing without the heat...

Items you will need:
Clear Scraps Circle embellishments (or what ever shape you like)
Tim Holtz Ranger Adirondack Alcohol inks (I used the color lettuce)
Alcohol ink applicator
Ranger Adirondack Dimensional Pearls ( I used cranberry)
or Liquid Pearls
Stamp

Once you have all your supplies you want to take the coating off of ONE side of your Clear Scraps shape embellishment.

Take your alcohol ink and apply it to your felted tool and start dabbing your acrylic and let dry

Once it's dry apply again and let dry and apply again. You are looking for the crackle glass look

Once you have that effect let it dry till it's no longer tacky...

Then flip your piece of acrylic over and take off the protective coating. ( I had you leave it on so you didn't get any ink on the other side.) Open up your dimensional pearls OR your liquid pearls which ever you have will work and put a nice amount onto a scrap piece of paper.

Once you have the amount you want using your finger or paint brush and spread it out a bit.

Once you have done that take your stamp and press it lightly into the dimensional pearls several times at different angles picking up as much as you can without being gobbed on.

Then gently lay it down on top of your acrylic and press down firmly several times. (be sure to not let your stamp move.)

When you lift up your stamp the piece of acrylic will be stuck to your stamp. Do not pull it off just yet. Lay your stamp down on your table with the acrylic still attached to your stamp and press down on your acrylic a couple of times. Making sure you get as much as the dimensional pearls onto your acrylic.

Then holding down onto the stamp gently lift your piece of acrylic straight up off of your stamp.

Your piece of acrylic will now look like this

put it aside and let it dry for about 10-15 min and get your card or layout ready for your "embossed acrylic"

Once dry your stamped image will look as if it was embossed on your piece of acrylic

Technique Tuesday...March 31st

woot woot it's Tuesday!!! Time for a new technique... Still playing with Clear Scraps products and Alcohol inks, but this time I added some metallics and some dimensional pearls...

Here is a little sneak peek of a mini album I did using the Clear Scraps Scalloped tag in acrylic and chipboard, but the technique I am sharing today is this clear acrylic decorative frame.

I used the Clear Scraps Acrylic frame, new "Cloudy Blue" alcohol ink from the new "lights" collection, Gold metallic alcohol ink and Gold dimensional pearls. All items are from Ranger.

To get this look continue to read on.

Ink your piece of Acrylic till you have the desired color. I went over it 4 times with the blue ink.

Next shake up your gold metallic alcohol ink and drop a few drops onto your piece of inked acrylic. I wanted a lot of gold so I put several drops on my flower.

Take your felt ink tool and dab the gold ink to spread it around your flower leaving some of the blue to still show through.

Next take your blue ink and drop small drops of ink onto your flower where your blue was showing through so it becomes darker. Let dry

once dry add more blue drops to your blue area on your flower and let dry
(see how the gold has a flaked look)

I wanted my blue just a tad bit darker so I added another drop of blue ink to my blue areas.

Once dry I took the gold dimensional pearls and added some dots and lines to the edge and center of my flower. This step will take about 30 min to dry fully.

Then I took my altered acrylic flower and added it to the center of my card where it can be the center of attention.

I totally love the look of it. It's a bit funky and well if you know me you know that I like the funky kinda stuff...

Technique Tuesday...

I had a lot of e-mails/pm's when I uploaded my owl album I did for Clear Scraps. Most of the questions were how did I get the tree embellishment to look the way it did...



I promised everyone I would share the technique... so here it is.

Items you will need.

Hambly overlays
Alcohol inks and tool
Clear Scraps Acrylic

Once you have all your supplies you want to start applying your alcohol inks to your acrylic



This next step you want to move quickly... Take the rough side of your Hambly overlay and set it on top of your inked up piece of acrylic



you will notice that the alcohol ink will start to react with the overlay.

With some firm pressure you want to hold onto the overlay and rub like you would a rub-on (do not let your Hambly or Acrylic move)

After about a min you can lift off the Hambly overlay and this is what you will have on your piece of acrylic

Now remember to use the rough side not the smooth side of the Hambly Overlays and be sure to share your projects you did using this technique.
